The primary function of the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit is
to locate, document, collect, and preserve crime scene evidence.
This is accomplished by skilled and highly trained Hall County
Sheriff’s Office investigators utilizing forensic innovations,
equipment, and methodology. Because many aspects of crime scene
investigation are based on science and ever changing technology,
continual ongoing training is necessary.
All law enforcement officers with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office
receive basic training in how to gather evidence, to include
fingerprints; however CSI personnel receive advanced training and
respond to those calls where the type of crime or evidence requires
more advanced skills to process. Once evidence has been collected,
it may be further analyzed at the Hall County Sheriff’s Office or
forwarded to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory
for further testing.
Crime scene processing and analysis is often a critical component in
identifying a suspect and for the successful prosecution of a
criminal case in court. CSI personnel work throughout the county and
provide support to other municipal, state, and federal agencies upon
request.
