At approximately 1216 p.m. deputies responded to a reported kidnapping in the area of Lyncliff Drive in northwest Hall County. Upon arrival, deputies obtained information the incident was domestic related. Deputies obtained information that an argument developed between Matthew Brian Roach, 25, Gainesville and a friend at a residence on Springdale Forest Blvd.
Mr. Roach, who was armed with a pistol, forced his friend and an infant child into a vehicle at gunpoint and drove away from the residence on Springdale Forest Blvd. Victim drove to the area of Pine Haven Drive to where Roach exited the vehicle on foot leaving the victims unharmed.
Roach located another victim in the area and forced him to drive at gunpoint to the area of Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch to where Roach, again, exited the vehicle on foot leaving the victim unharmed.
Hall County Sheriff’s deputies used a tracking K-9 to locate Roach at a residence on Looper Lake Drive. Roach was found to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the mouth. A pistol was found in his possession.

Hall County EMS transported Roach to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Upon his release from the medical center, Roach will be transported to the Hall County Detention Center and charged with the following offenses:
- Kidnapping (3 counts)
- Aggravated Assault
- Burglary
- Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (4 counts)
- Superior Court Bench Warrant
The incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
