Tanker Overturns and Burns on HWY 129 South

 

At approximately 0950 AM, Monday, January 26, 2004, An 18 wheel gas tanker loaded with approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline over turned and burst into flames on Hwy 129 south just south of Roy Parks Road after the driver lost control.

Hall County Fire Fighters fought the blaze for several hours before using foam to extinguish the blaze.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office closed Hwy 129 and detoured traffic at Hwy 129 @ Hwy 323 (Gillsville Hwy) and at Hwy 129 @ A.L. Mangum Rd. Traffic was detoured for over eight and a half hours after the accident. The Sheriff’s Office was able to reopen Hwy 129 just after 630 PM.

The driver escaped with minor injuries. 

The accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
