For Immediate Release: January 1, 2004

On New Years Eve and into the early morning hours of New Years Day 2004 the Hall County Sheriff's Office conducted concentrated traffic patrols and a vehicle safety checkpoint in Hall County. Extra deputies where brought in for the holiday patrol. They concentrated their efforts on DUI’s, speeders, and aggressive drivers.

Around midnight a Sheriff’s Sobriety Checkpoint was set up on Browns Bridge Road just west of Gainesville. Deputies screened each driver for alcohol impairment as they checked drivers license.

The officers found that most drivers where sober or had designated drivers.

Officers did find several violators and issued citations and made arrest for following:

14 arrests for DUI

25 speeding citations

19 no license

 8 seat belt citations

 2 arrest suspended license

14 no insurance citations

22 other traffic arrest/citations

 2 drug arrest

Even with the arrests, the Hall County Sheriff's Office considered the New Years Holiday to be very safe and without any major incidents.
