Deputies responding to a welfare check on Dean Street near Gainesville Mill confronts elderly female with a gun.
At approximately 2:30 PM, Tuesday, two-patrolman from the Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Dean Street to check the welfare of an elderly female. The female opened the door and confronted the deputies with a small caliber handgun.
The deputies backed off to deescalate the situation and await additional assistance.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team was placed on standby along with support personnel.
Due to the age of the perpetrator two specially trained officers were again sent to check on the female and were able to take her into custody without incident.
A small caliber handgun was recovered and seized from the scene.
The female was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center for mental evaluation.
Upon her release she will be charge with 3 counts Aggravated Assault.
The perpetrators name is being withheld pending arrest and notification of family members.
The case is still under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigations Division.
